Physical Education

Netball-Physical Education

Students at Parap Primary should be physically active every day in as many ways as they can. Most health experts agree that all people should accumulate 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day for health benefits. It is generally agreed that, in addition, children should engage in more vigorous activity of at least 20 minutes at least 3 times a week.

Our Physical Education program develops each student’s competence and confidence in a broad range of games, sports and physical activities. Students develop fundamental movement skills, progressing to more games and sport specific skills in non-competitive and competitive environments that foster positive feelings of success and enjoyment.

School Sport Pilot Program

This year Parap Primary School will continue to participate in the School Sport NT Pilot Program. Our students in Year 3 through 6 have the opportunity to participate in the Intra School and Inter School Sports Program.

In 2018, all Top End government primary schools will be involved in the continuing Inter school Sport Pilot Program. School Sport NT has re-established a weekly school sport program during school time. The goal is to provide a strong foundation for students to build a full and active life. The program will continue to develop as a pilot program across the duration of 2018 with the aim of being rolled out to all areas of the Northern Territory in the future.

School Sport offers school communities opportunities to build a strong identity and culture of excellence. Traditional values of respect, fairness, responsibilities and resilience are developed as part of students’ participation.

Years 3 & 4 – Intra School

Two sports are played at school over a 5 week block. The focus of the first four weeks is skill development and the fifth and final week is a celebration of the sports – modified or full games, depending on age group and skill ability.

Years 5 & 6 – Intra and Inter School

Two sports are played over a four week period to develop skills and compete a round-robin style competition both at school and travelling to other local schools within our ‘hub’. In week five selected students will get to compete in a celebration of the sport at a ‘Gala Day’.
